The Auto Electrician is responsible for the installation, testing, diagnosis, and repair of electrical systems across a range of commercial vehicle builds. Working within a production environment, the role supports the delivery of high-quality, compliant, and road-ready vehicles while meeting safety, quality, and production standards.
- Install and test vehicle wiring looms, lighting systems, and electrical components
- Fit auxiliary electrical systems including beacons, work lights, cameras, inverters, and related equipment
- Ensure electrical installations meet required specifications and quality standards
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults on new and existing vehicle builds
- Carry out fault-finding on 12V and 24V electrical systems using appropriate diagnostic methods
- Rectify issues efficiently to minimise production delays
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical instructions
- Complete work in line with job cards, build schedules, and company procedures
- Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant safety standards and legislation
- Work collaboratively with production, fabrication, and finishing teams to deliver complete vehicle builds
- Support workflow within a production-line environment to meet deadlines
- Communicate effectively with colleagues to resolve build or technical issues
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures and safe working practices at all times
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area
- Adhere to company housekeeping standards and policies
Skills & Attributes
- Proven experience as an Auto Electrician or in a similar role within the automotive or commercial vehicle industry
- Relevant qualifications in Auto Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience working on commercial vehicles, vehicle conversions, or specialist body builds (desirable)
- Familiarity with auxiliary electrical equipment and bespoke vehicle installations (desirable)
- Strong understanding of 12V and 24V vehicle electrical systems
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical drawings
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Good knowledge of safe working practices within a factory or workshop environment
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Reliable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively.
- Professional attitude with good communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while supporting wider operational teams.
- Willingness to listen, learn, and develop new skills
Rates vary from £13.45ph – £17.00 ph (subject to experience / skills)
